Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation StrokeBusters Appeal

The StrokeBusters Appeal is the Charitable Foundation’s most ambitious appeal yet and aims to provide a gold-standard Stroke service at Southend University Hospital with a new 14-bedded Acute Stroke Unit, state-of-the-art equipment and enhanced rehabilitation facilities. Once completed the Unit will help to reduce the level of disability in stroke patients and ensure that we offer our community one of the top Stroke Units in the country.

As a result of the planned expansion to stroke services, the hospital welcomed new stroke consultant Dr Paul Guyler in June. Paul is keen to alert the public to the signs of stroke and the importance of acting FAST. “A stroke is a brain attack and, as with a heart attack, you need to go to hospital straight away so we can prevent the terrible disabilities caused by stroke”.
