Record Numbers turn out for Hospital Sponsored Walk

Some of the more adventurous walkers wore fancy dress and many wore pink to show their support for the Bosom Pals Appeal.  The event, which was sponsored by Sea-Life Adventure, got off to a great start when Southend Mayor, cllr Brian Smith cut the ribbon and then took part with his wife Lyn.

The new route took in the entire length of Southend seafront from Uncle Tom’s Cabin in Shoebury to the shelter at Chalkwell where nearly 300 participants received their well earned medals.  It is hoped that the event will raise more than £10,000 once all the sponsorship has been received.

Malachy O’Sullivan, Southend Hospital Charitable Foundation trustee and joint organiser of the event, spoke of his delight that so many people braved the elements to support the hospital.  He also went on to thank the volunteer marshals, Clements Hall leisure centre for supplying the goody bags and Philip Miller MBE from Sea-Life Adventure for his support.
